Cougar sighting near Hector Road
Posted on Aug 23, 2012 in What to do, what to see? In Port Alberni, BC
Just wanted to make sure everybody was aware there was another cougar sighting near Hector road. While it's unlikely a cougar will attack a person, it's always important to be cautious and aware that they could be around. Recently a child was attacked by a cougar near Sproat Lake, so it's important to be aware. The Conservation Offices Website reminds us that if a Cougar does show interest in you respond aggressively. Maintain eye contact, show your teeth, act loudly. If possible arm yourself with rocks or sticks as weapons, but crouch down as little as possible to pick things up. Anyone attacked by a cougar is encouraged to fight back.
