New school to get turf field
Posted on Aug 2, 2012 in What to do, what to see? In Port Alberni, BC
Due to lower than originally expected construction costs, some additions to the new high school, set to complete in late August, will be added. One of those addition is a full size turf soccer field. Port Alberni doesn't currently have any turf fields, so this is an exciting addition to the community. A turf field will last 70+ years and will be a great community upgrade. Many communities have come to enjoy turf fields as an excellent alternative to a regular field during certain weather, as well as for different age groups. Nanaimo uses their turf fields for tee ball, as it's easier for the children to catch the ball on becuase it's level. The field is currently set to have only soccer lines on it, and the plan is to let the field be available for community use when the school is not using it. The school will also be receiving a secondary smaller gymnasium to assist in tournaments.
